Workplace noise is more than just an annoyance. Prolonged exposure can lead to permanent hearing damage, reduced concentration, and serious long-term health risks. Occupational noise monitoring is not simply about meeting regulatory requirements — it is about creating safer, healthier environments for every worker.
By accurately measuring noise exposure levels and time-weighted averages, Aihua Instruments helps safety professionals and employers gain a clear picture of real-world noise exposure throughout the working day. Reliable data enables smarter noise control decisions, better protection for workers, and full regulatory compliance.
Noise exposure at work in accordance with 2003/10/EC and ISO 9612
Compliance with the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005
Health standard compliance verification per ISO 1999
Daily noise exposure level LEX,8h determination
The Noise at Work Directive 2003/10/EC sets clear action limits to protect workers from the risk of noise-induced hearing damage:
| Action Level | LEX,8h | LCpeak |
| Lower Action Value | 80 dB(A) | 135 dB |
| Upper Action Value | 85 dB(A) | 137 dB |
| Exposure Limit Value | 87 dB(A) | 140 dB |
When the noise level remains relatively consistent (LAS deviation less than 5 dB), measure the LAeq over a representative period. The resulting LAeq represents the noise exposure level for the full 8-hour working period.
Formula:
LEX,8h = LAeq + 10 × log ( T / 8 hours )
Where T = actual daily noise exposure time (hours)
For workplaces with clearly distinguishable noise levels at different times, measure the LAeq at each level and record the corresponding exposure duration. The LEX,8h, is then calculated by combining all recorded data.
Formula:
LEX,8h = LAeq measured over 8 hours
